My sweet Grandpa Roberts passed away unexpectedly right before Christmas. We thankfully live pretty close so that we were able to leave the following morning to be with my family. My Grandpa was out doing what he loved and that was taking care of his big yard. I am so thankful that I had the privileged of growing up next door to them, for my memories are endless of them. There isn't a little or major event in my life where Grandma and Grandpa weren't there. They are two of my biggest Heroes who have taught me so much. My Grandpa left such an incredible legacy with 27 Grandkids and 47 great Grandkids and counting :) The day he passed away my cousin Jenny had her baby. Its amazing the circle of life. Every Sunday while growing up we got together as family at their house, where my cousins became my best friends for life. Its amazing that no one ever got offended or ever stayed away. Those are some of my favorite memories of my childhood. How grateful I am for him being the Patriarch of the family to keep us so close. We had an amazing reunion and I know that he did on the other side as well. What a man he is and was. A little less then a month before he died, we were at m parents house and before we left he took Paysen around and around on his blue tractor. I remember thinking about how many times I had mowed the lawn with him :) He always took the time to be with me and he always acted like he had all the time in the world for me.
Here is his obituary
COY HAYWARD ROBERTS
1931 - 2014
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2014, at the LDS Church on Baker Creek Road.
Coy Hayward Roberts, 82, passed away December 16, 2014, at the Legacy Emanuel Burn Center in Portland, Oregon.
Coy was born December 29, 1931, in Minersville, Utah, to Lester and Leona (Carter) Roberts. In 1950, he graduated from Beaver High School, where he participated in basketball and football. Later that year, he married his high school sweetheart, Jolene DeLeeuw, in the Logan, Utah, LDS temple. He farmed in southern Utah, until he moved to Wells, Nevada, where he worked for the railroad. In 1954, Coy and Jolene moved their family to Carlton, Oregon, and started a dairy farm with his dad and brothers. Six years later, they moved their dairy to McMinnville, where they still live. After retiring from the dairy, Coy started a trucking business and continued farming.
Coy and Jolene served three missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Papua, New Guinea, Missouri, and Pennsylvania. Coy also served as bishop of the McMinnville LDS Ward in the early 1980s.
Coy enjoyed raising and sharing his garden, hunting with his sons and grandsons in the fall, and was known for his unique method of mowing his lawn. He loved a new Chrysler, a thick slice of bologna and a woman named Jolene, “Sally Q."
Coy is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jolene; son, Mike and his wife, Darlene of Brigham City, Utah; daughter, Jan and her husband, Lawrence Judd of Yamhill; son, Don and his wife, Betsy of Carlton; son, Dan and his wife, Taunja of Amity; son, Tom and his wife, Roseanne of McMinnville; brother, Vance Roberts of Milford, Utah; sister, Carlie Archibald of McMinnville; son-in-law, Bill Timothy of Pleasant Grove, Utah; 28 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren and counting! Preceding him in death were his daughter, Joycelyn Timothy; his parents; brothers, Beryl and Rollin Roberts; and sister, Eleanor Marshall.
Grandma Roberts says, “Never let a day go by without expressing your love to those you care about.” And as Grandpa would say, “Goodbye for now.” In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Legacy Emanuel Burn Center in care of Macy & Son. To leave online condolences, visit www.macyandson.com.
